ABSTRACT WORKS WITH WATER, ACRYLIC AND SPRAY PAINT :
A DIALOGUE OF THE PROCEDURAL AND SPONTANEOUS
A HUMAN FILTER OF THE LANDSCAPE MARINE BIOSPHERE
Nicklaus Schwaller is an artist and architect in Santa Barbara. Schwaller’s approach to making artwork is based on a fluid formal vocabulary that emphasizes a process of flow and spontaneous intersection. The open and provocative quality of forms made by the forces of water and movement, are put into context with the artifacts of processes of sequence, procedure and organization borrowed from the architectural discipline. The dialogue between these methods results in , when coupled with a free sensibility to jump between scales, contexts, and time frames, a vivid and layered expression of vision. The works are made to reference an abstracted landscape of the Santa Barbara marine biosphere, aiming to to capture a sense of spontaneous life in Santa Barbara and the Channel Islands, by distilling its experiential qualities though a human perceptual and representational process of making.
